25th April – ANZAC Day – Lest We Forget

By | 25 April 2017

Today, here in New Zealand and Australia we have a public holiday for ANZAC Day.

‘ANZAC’ stands for “Australian and New Zealand Army Corps”. On the 25th of April 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula. These became known as Anzacs and the pride they took in that name continues to this day.

Anzac Day is also a day to remember all who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.

This morning my family and I got up and went to the East Coast Bays Dawn Service at 6am to commemorate ANZAC Day.  Many attended this.  For those how didn’t want to go to a Dawn service, there were also other ANZAC services later in the morning at different locations to commemorate ANZAC Day.
